DID YOU KNOW THAT NATURE + HEALTH = OPTIMAL SELF

Have you noticed when we go through a few days of clouds and rain how people’s moods and bodies are affected?  As soon as the sun is out and it’s a little warmer people’s moods are heightened and their physical bodies seem to be functioning a little better.

That’s because as human beings we are directly connected to nature, the weather & the seasons.  If you are looking to improve your health, here are a few ways to do that:

1. Spend time outside or near windows.  As you know, at the clinic our reception area is full of windows and it’s not uncommon that you will find one if not all of our therapists sitting up here during the day taking in the sun & the light.  This exposure to sunlight boosts your energy, your immune system and your overall mood.

  1. Walk barefoot on the grass. It’s time to take off your shoes!!  The benefits of walking barefoot on the grass are incredible – it helps to reduce stress, inflammation, improves balance and posture & helps you ground yourself so you can feel more centred and less reactive to situations.
  1. Take a 10 minute break in nature.  Studies are showing that stepping outside for as little as 10 minutes for a break or recreation activities will improve your mental state, your well-being, decrease anxiety and depression symptoms and restore your overall health.
  2. Exercise and/or stretch outdoors. Take yourself outside to do the exercises that the physio recommended.  Breathing in the outside air and moving your body is a sure way to help you relax & improve your focus.

These might seem simple but the effects of connecting and stepping out into nature are powerful for your physical and mental health.
